The most obvious thing I’ve gained from the martial arts is a sense of how to protect myself. Knowing I can deal with a violent situation gives me confidence and a sense of calm.

Knowing I can throw big men using balance and flow and not relying on muscle and physical power is a great feeling and I enjoy it to this day!

Walking down the street alone or at night used to be a stress for me as for most women.
I know that danger exists, but now I feel safe. I feel safe in my own skin. I feel safe in my own neighborhood. I feel safe in my city.

I have a new awareness of my surroundings. When I walk I’m aware of all that is going on around me and all the options that are available to me. These things go on automatically for me now and allow me to be comfortable in my environment.

Most of all it has given me confidence while traveling away from home.

People learning something as deep as martial arts creates a bond between each other. When a group of women get together to learn to empower themselves the community feeling is incredible.

My experience in bonding with students and teachers has given me a deeper appreciation for the preciousness of human interactions. Through this all my relationships have deepened as well.

Through much of my life I had suffered from a poor self image. My training has given me a confidence and inner strength I never knew existed. Having overcome so many fears and fought through personal obstacles over the years has taught me that I can accomplish anything I put my mind and heart into.

In spite of one black eye (many years ago) I have suffered very little injury from twenty-five years of martial arts. It really is a very safe art. Martial Arts has given me a greater desire for a life of good physical fitness. Such a commitment is one of the benefits of my practice of Ninjutsu.

I carry all of the lessons I’ve learned through my years studying Ninjutsu into all the areas of my life. I live a happy, fulfilled, empowered life and I credit Martial Arts as a primary influence in creating it so.

As you can see I’ve gained a lot from this wonderful art. I want to share these experiences and learnings with you.
